Preoperative tests are a set of tests that are carried out before a planned operation.
They are done to ensure that key aspects of health fall within certain parameters to minimise the risks of surgery. Not all test results will necessarily be shared with the patient if they fall within those parameters and the surgeon is happy to proceed.
This is a mistake.
Whilst results may well fall within the correct parameters for a procedure, some may well be out of normal range. Which might indicate the need for further investigation/ monitoring outside of the hospital setting.
It is worth asking to see all test results at all times and in all settings. In fact I would go so far as to say that all health providers should be duty bound to provide them directly to the patient as a matter of course.
